Chandanoseeradi kashayam is an Ayurvedic medicine for a wide array of bleeding disorders.

 

Benefits of Chandanoseeradi kashayam

It is beneficial in nose bleeding, gum bleeding etc. It can be used in dysfunctional uterine bleeding to arrest profuse bleeding, as a Vyaadhivipareeta medicine.

This Kashayam has proved beneficial in diseases of malfunctioning/deficient coagulant prothrombin or factor V. It can improve blood clotting time. It can make the quality of life better in severe diseases like haemophilia, Von Willebrand disease etc

It is a coolant formulation and arrests bleeding. As it enhances stagnant metabolism, it can reverse the pathology of some diseases with virulent multiplication of cells or germs. Some carcinomas and viral infections.

It is beneficial in Gastro-Intestinal disorders with a severe burning sensation, bleeding per rectum etc.

It is used to treat hot flushes associated with menopause. It is beneficial in inflammatory vaginal diseases with redness, excess bleeding, and burning sensation.

 

Indications of Chandanoseeradi kashayam

Rakta-Pitta         – Bleeding disorders.

 

Ingredients of Chandanoseeradi kashayam

 

Red sandalwood Raktachandana Pterocarpus santalinus L.

 

It has anti-inflammatory, anti-pyretic, anthelmintic, aphrodisiac, anti-hyperglycaemic and diaphoretic properties. It is used in the treatment of fever, haemorrhage and dysentery.

 

vetiver Useera Vetiveria zizanioides (L.) NASH

 

Vetiver is a coolant, yet aids in digestion. It is widely used in treating fever, dysuria, burning sensation, fatigue syndrome, skin disorders etc. Potable water prepared with this also has many health benefits like preventing ulcers.

 

Coco grass, Nut grass, Purple nutsedge Jalada/Musta Cyperus rotundus L.

 

It has marked anti-inflammatory action. It also has anthelmintic, antioxidant and antifungal properties. The drug improves lactation, relieves fever, burning sensation, and excessive thirst. It is also used in treating diarrhoea, dyspepsia and skin diseases.

 

Laaja – fried puff of rice grain (Oryza sativa)

Green gram/Mung bean Mudga Vigna radiata L.

 

 

As a part of both medicine and food, it has dynamic changes in metabolites during the sprouting process and related biological activities, including antioxidant, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antihypertensive, lipid metabolism accommodation, antihypertensive, and antitumor effects, etc.

Long pepper Kana

 

Piper longum

It has carminative action and may be used as an appetizer. The fruit and root of Pippali are used in the form of powder to treat fever, diarrhoea, piles, cough, hiccough, asthma, hoarseness of voice, flatulence, colic, vomiting, acid gastritis, oedema, diseases of the mouth, eye diseases, diseases of semen, diseases of women, jaundice, and earache.

Pippali mixed with honey alleviates cough, dyspnoea, fever splenomegaly, and hiccough. 

Barley Yava Hordeum vulgare

 Barley grass promotes sleep; has antidiabetic effect; regulates blood pressure; enhances immunity; protects liver; has anti-acne/detoxifying and antidepressant effects; improves gastrointestinal function; has anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, hypolipidemic, and antigout effects; reduces hyperuricemia; prevents hypoxia, cardiovascular diseases, fatigue, and constipation; alleviates atopic dermatitis; is a calcium supplement; improves cognition; and so on. 

Country mallow/Flannel weed Bala Sida cordifolia Linn.

It is antipyretic, anti-inflammatory, contraceptive, and has anti-fungal activity. It is a tonic for strengthening nerves and muscles in various neuromotor diseases. 

Details of the manufacturing 

Chandanoseeradi kashayam has eight ingredients. Seven of them, except Bala are taken in equal quantity.

Method of preparation in the classical text is a special method. It is advised to be prepared as a himakashaya and to be taken fresh. It is lighter for digestion when compared to common Srita Kalpana of kwatha.

All the ingredients should be washed well and dried up in shade.

Balaa kwatha is prepared fresh separately.

Take the other seven herbs in dried & powdered form in an earthen pot. Now add four times Balaa kwatha into it. Keep it closed overnight to make sure that all the active ingredients in the herbs needed are absorbed well into the decoction. On the next day morning, Squeeze and drain through a clean white cloth. Collect the decoction in a clean vessel and discard the solid waste. Drink the fresh decoction.

Dosha Dooshya Predominance with roga margas.

Chandanoseeradi kashayam is Pitta-kaphahara.

It acts on abhyantara, and bahir-rogamargas. 

Dosage and Usage of Chandanoseeradi kashayam

Dosage: two Pala or one Pala or according to digestion.

Usage:

Kashayam is advised to take in empty stomach, once the ingested food is digested well and aahaararasa is formed well.

Usage of kashayam with prescribed prakshepadravyas according to the condition of disease and the patient gives the best results mostly. 

Exercises and Yoga.

Chandanoseeradi kashayam is used mainly in bleeding disorders. Exercises should be decided considering the disease. Vigorous exercises are not allowed in painful conditions.

Only stretching, moderate walking, and mild cardio exercises are advised. Also, specific yogacharya including bhujangaasana, salabhasana, vajrasana is recommended. Range of movement and flexibility must be considered while doing every exercise.

Sookshma sandhi vyayama (warming up small joints) is advised.

Regular exercise helps improve the bioavailability of the medicine and food ingested and leads to positive health.

Yoga can maintain harmony within the body and with the surrounding system.

All the exercises and physical exertions must be decided and done under the supervision of a medical expert only.

Recommended diet and behavior

Diet:

  • To be avoided

Heavy meals and difficult to digest foods – cause indigestion.

junk foods- cause a disturbance in digestion and reduces the bioavailability of the medicine

carbonated drinks – makes the stomach more acidic and disturbed digestion

refrigerated and frozen foods – causes weak and sluggish digestion by weakening Agni (digestive fire)

curd – causes vidaaha and thereby many other diseases

Red chilli and other pungent, hot, and spicy food items.

Light meals and easily digestible foods.

Fresh fruits and vegetables.

Green gram, soups, arrowroot, gooseberry, milk and ghee.

freshly cooked and warm food processed with cumin seeds, ginger, curry leaves etc 

Behaviour:

Better to avoid exposure to excessive sunlight wind rain or dust.

Avoid stress.

Maintain a regular food and sleep schedule.

Avoid holding or forcing the urges like urine, faeces, cough, sneeze etc.
