Vastyamayantaka ghrutham is an Ayurvedic medicine for treating urinary tract disorders. It also helps to treat calculi, diabetes, swelling and urinatory tract infection.

Benefits of Vastyamayantaka ghrutham

Vasthyamayanthakam Ghrutham is used in acute pain & distension of lower abdomen, dysuria, mild fever with chills; all associated with urinary tract infection. As it clears the urinary channels, it is beneficial in some cases of renal disorders.

It is used very efficiently in urinary and renal calculi. It clears blood and pus discharge through urine.

It is used in the treatment of prostratomegaly. By controlling the hypertrophy and swelling, the path of urine is cleared. It is found useful in some tumours and cysts in the urinary and seminal passages.

It is used in bed wetting and loss of bladder control in small children and elderly. It gives strength to the nerves and muscles of urinary system.

It is used in painful conditions of pelvic area like hernia, hydrocele, vaginismus etc.

It is useful in diseases such as hormonal imbalance, sexual problems, heart problems, kidney problems and various skin diseases. It helps in reducing blood sugar and cholesterol levels.

 

Wild asparagus Satavari

It has anti-oxidants and immuno-stimulants.  It has anti-inflammatory, anti-hepatotoxic, anti-bacterial, anti-oxytocic, and reproductive agents.

 

Amla, Indian gooseberry Dhatri Emblica officinalis GAERTN.

 

Amla exhibits strong antioxidant activity. It is one of the most important plants in the traditional Ayurvedic medical system as well as in other traditional health systems for immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antiulcer and hepatoprotective actions. It is widely used for anti-diabetic effect.It is a part of the famous group of drugs called Thriphala.

 

Ivy gourd or scarlet gourd Bimbi Coccinia grandis

 

Apart from being a part of diet as an abundant vegetable, this plant is being used for the treatment of various skin diseases, diabetes mellitus, urinary tract infections, bronchitis, itchy skin eruptions and ulcers. Recent studies demonstrate that an extract of this plant is safe to use in diabetic rats.

 

 

Ash gourd Koosmanda Benincasa hispida

 

Apart from a vegetable and a part of daily diet, it is used as a laxative, diuretic, tonic, aphrodisiac, and cardiotonic. It is also used in urinary calculi, blood related diseases, insanity, epilepsy, and also in cases of jaundice, dyspepsia, fever, and menstrual disorders.

Because the nutrient content of grapes is close to that of blood plasma, grape fasts are recommended for detoxification. Long pepper – root Hastipippali Piper longum

 

It is pungent in taste and hot in potency. It breaks down thick sputum and is beneficial in sinusitis and asthma. It is also useful in the treatment of worm infestation, infected wounds, ascites, enlargement of abdomen, distension of abdomen, splenomegaly, asthma, tuberculosis and other chronic respiratory disorders. It improves taste and relieves anorexia.

 

Prickly chaff flower Apamarga Achyranthes aspera Linn.

 

It is famous for its healing effect on kidney and bladder calculi. It is an excellent diuretic used in dysuria, urinary calculi, urinary tract disorders. It has anti-bacterial, anti-diarrhoeal, broncho-dialator, emmenagogue, anti-arthritic, anti-fertility, laxative, ecbolic, anthelmintic, aphrodisiac, antiviral, anti-plasmodic, anti-hypertensieve, anti-coagulant, diuretic and anti-tumpour properties. It is also used in the treatment of fistula, cough, asthma, fever, piles, scrofula, chronic malaria, impotence, and snake bites.

 

Indian madder Manjishtha Rubia cordifolia L.

 

It is a blood purifier. Used in the treatments of almost all skin diseases. It improves complexion. It enhances the liver functions.  Beneficial in diarrhoea and eye diseases.

 

 

Sacred lotus Padmakesara

 

Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn.            

 

It is used as astringent, emollient, and diuretic. It is used in the treatment of diarrhoea, tissue inflammation, and homeostasis. The rhizome extract can be used as antidiabetic and anti-inflammatory properties due to the presence of asteroidal triterpenoid. Leaves are used as an effective drug for hematemesis, epistaxis, hemoptysis, hematuria, and metrorrhagia. Flowers aere used to treat diarrhoea, cholera, fever, and hyperdipsia. In traditional medicine practice, seeds are used in the treatment of tissue inflammation, cancer and skin diseases, leprosy, and poison antidote. Embryo of lotus seeds is used in traditional Chinese medicine as Lian Zi Xin, which primarily helps to overcome nervous disorders, insomnia, and cardiovascular diseases (hypertension and arrhythmia).

 

Cilantro seeds Kustumbari/Dhanyaka Coriandrum sativum Linn.

 

It is an anti-oxidant, anti-diabetic, diuretic, and anti-pyretic. It improves digestion and absorption; it is good for heart.

 

Lodh tree/ Symplocos Lodhra/ Pachotti Symplocos racemosa Roxb.

 

It has wound healing, anti-diabetic, and hepato-protective properties. It is good for eyes, and a uterine tonic. It alleviates Kapha, Rakta & Pitta. Indian ginseng Hayagandha/Aswagandha Withania somnifera

 

The plant has been used as an aphrodisiac, liver tonic, anti-inflammatory agent, and more recently to treat asthma, ulcers, insomnia, and senile dementia. Clinical trials and animal research support the use of ashwagandha for anxiety, cognitive and neurological disorders, inflammation, and Parkinson’s disease.

 

Spreading hogweed Punarnava Boerhavia diffusa

 

The name Punarnava means it has the capability to repair and regenerate itself. It does the same function in our body also. It is an important anti-inflammatory medicinal herb well known for its diuretic and antioedematous properties. Here it works as a diuretic, by balancing the water retention at the same time helping to reduce oedema in the visceral organs being beneficial in ascites, splenomegaly etc. It can eliminate the unwanted fluid collected in tissues and reduce swelling and thereby reverse inflammation.

 

Velvet bean Athmaguptha Mucuna prurience

 

It is famous for its aphrodisiac property. It lowers stress, reduces anxiety, improves focus, boosts libido and elevates mood. It has effects on central & peripheral nervous system. Details of the manufacturing

 

As already discussed, Vastyamayantakaghrutha has 51 herbal ingredients, silajatu, cow’s milk, rock salt and cow’s ghee.

Herbs for swarasa should be taken fresh, washed well, crushed and squeezed through a cloth/sieve to get clean filtered swarasa.

All herbal ingredients for decoction and kalka should be washed well and dried up in shade.

Silajatu (Half part of total kalka)

Take the ghrutha in an open vessel and make it boil. Add the prescribed Kashaya, mik, swarasa of the prescribed herbs into it and again boil. Mix well and make sure to keep the fire low. Make it boil and cook in a low and steady fire. Add the kalka dravya (herbal paste) slowly, mixing well. Make it boil and then cook keeping the open vessel with low fire. Reduce the quantity into the quantity of ghrutha. Make sure to mix it in between with a ladle. Also, the fire should be kept low to make sure that all the active ingredients in the herbs needed are absorbed well into the ghee. Continue cooking and stir in between. Check the Paaka as per Snehapakavidhi. Once the desired Paaka is attained, filter the ghruta. Mix well and keep it in air tight glass bottles after cooling completely. Ghrutha can be used for a longer period of time without any preservatives.

 

Dosha Dooshya Predominance with roga marga.

Vasthyamayanthakam Ghrutham is Kaphapittahara and anulomana.

It acts on aabhyantara, baahya and madhyama rogamarga

Dosage and Usage of Vasthyamayanthakam Ghrutham

Dosage:

Depends upon the digestive power of the person. Usually it is given 15g-20g twice daily in a person with good appetite and digestion as samanasneha.

Usage:

When used as Samanasneha, Ghrutham is advised to take in empty stomach, once the ingested food is digested well and when the person has appetite.

Usage of ghrutham with prescribed prakshepadravyas according to the condition of disease and the patient gives the best results mostly.

 

Exercises and Yoga.

As Vasthyamayanthakam Ghrutham targets mainly the apaanavayu and electrolyte balance in the body, regular exercises are advised. Also, specific Yogacharya including naadisuddhi pranayama, bhujangaasana, is recommended.

Regular exercise helps improve the bioavailability of medicine and food ingested and leads to positive health.

Yoga can maintain harmony within the body and with the surrounding system.

Side effects and contraindications

No known side effects reported.

Contraindication

People with derangement in fat metabolism; may it be Hyperlipidaemia or obesity or hypercholesteremia or atherosclerosis or hypertension. Most of these, associated with weak digestion, too. In such people, the ghee preparation may worsen the condition rather than curing it.

Diabetic patients should not take it as it contains sugarcane.
