ADENOMYOSIS- Ayurvedic Treatment focus on fixing the metabolic disorders leading to the over production of fat tissues. Adenomyosis is also known as adenomyosis uteri. It is the cause of heavy menstrual bleeding and dysmenorrhoea.

SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF ADENOMYOSIS

  • Painful menstruation
  • Spotting
  • Abdominal and pelvic pain

CAUSES OF ADENOMYOSIS

  • The exact cause is unknown
  • Tissue growth in the uterine wall
  • Hormonal factors
  • Child birth-related problems

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF ADENOMYOSIS

The pathophysiology of adenomyosis is not fully elucidated. Adenomyosis occurs when the endometrial tissue grows into the muscular wall of the uterus.

DIAGNOSIS OF ADENOMYOSIS

  • Diagnosis through clinical features
  • Physical examinations
  • Ultrasound scanning
  • Sonohysterography
  • Blood tests – to measure the level of haemoglobin

TREATMENTS FOR ADENOMYOSIS

  • Hormone therapy
  • Anti-inflammatory drugs
  • Iron supplements
  • Surgical interventions
  • Treatment for underlying pathology

PROGNOSIS OF ADENOMYOSIS

  • Adenomyosis is manageable with medications. Untreated adenomyosis leads to complications. Hysterectomy is the permanent solution for adenomyosis.

  • Anaemia
  • Dysmenorrhoea

ADENOMYOSIS AND AYURVEDA

  • In ayurveda adenomyosis is managed based on ‘asrigdhara chikilsa’ and ‘vatiki (yoniroga)’.
  • Asrigdhara is of 4 types – vata, pitta, kapha, sannipatha

NIDANA- AYURVEDIC CAUSES OF ADENOMYOSIS

  • Excess consumption of sour, acrid, unwholesome food
  • Yoniroga
  • Excess physical exercise
  • Suppression of natural urges

PURVAROOPAM- AYURVEDIC PREMONITORY SYMPTOMS OF ADENOMYOSIS

  • Heavy menstrual bleeding

SAMPRAPTI – AYURVEDIC PATHOGENESIS OF ADENOMYOSIS

Due to the causative factors, excess vitiation of doshas occurs along with raktadhatu. When the vitiated doshas reside in the uterus, asrigdhara manifested. The aggravated vata resides in the yoni (female reproductive system) and produces different kinds of pains during menstruation.

  • Ruk,Thoda – lower abdominal pain

  • Take an appropriate quantity of fluids
  • Intake of iron supplements
  • Heat application on the lower abdominal area by a towel dipped with hot water or by hot water bags.

DIET AND BEHAVIOUR FOR ADENOMYOSIS

  • Avoid food items that produce dosha imbalance like extreme sour, acrid, and dry food, hard to digest. Because dosha imbalance aggravates the symptoms.
  • Take proper rest.
  • Consume a balanced diet
  • Menstrual hygiene

YOGA FOR ADENOMYOSIS

  • Nadi Shuddi Pranayam – Calms the mind and gets relief from the pain associated with adenomyosis

The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, with the body relaxed. The patient has to close his one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.
