SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS OF BURNING URINATION

The associated symptoms include;

  • Burning sensation when urinating
  • Urinating frequently or feeling the need to urinate frequently
  • Discomfort during urination
  • Hematuria

PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF BURNING URINATION

Pathophysiology of burning urination is based on the cause of the disease. In the case of urinary tract infections, the bacterial infection spreads to the urethra, bladder then finally urethritis, cystitis manifested. The inflammatory changes of the urinary tract may also be caused by chemical irritants and mechanical irritants. In the case of urinary calculi, the burning urination and hematuria occur due to the injuries made by the stone.

  • Prognosis is based on the cause of the disease, duration and condition of the patient
  • Burning urination due to bacterial infection is easily cured by antibiotic therapy.

  • In Ayurveda, burning urination are symptomatologically refers to mootra krichra, asmari, mootraghata.
  • Burning urination is a symptom of diseases affecting the mootravaha srothas.

NIDANA- AYURVEDIC CAUSES OF BURNING URINATION

  • Suppression of urge for urination
  • Agantu factors – infections, injuries
  • Vrikka roga – kidney diseases
  • Asmari – urinary calculi

PURVAROOPAM- AYURVEDIC PREMONITORY SYMPTOMS OF BURNING URINATION

  • Difficulty in urination.

SAMPRAPTI – AYURVEDIC PATHOGENESIS OF BURNING URINATION

In Mootra krichra, the vitiated Pitta Dosha along with Vata (mainly Apana Vayu) on reaching Vasti (bladder) afflicts the Mootravaha Srothas due to which the patient feels difficulty in micturition and burning micturition. The above-mentioned symptomatology has a close resemblance to urinary tract infections. Urinary calculi (asmari) are one of the causes of burning urination. Doshas associated with the predominance of kapha leads to asmari.

  • Traces of blood in the urine
  • Difficulty in urination
  • Burning sensation during micturition – daha
  • Fever – jwara

HOME REMEDIES FOR BURNING URINATION

  • Heat application on the lower abdomen by a towel dipped with hot water to relieve pain associated with calculi and cystitis.
  • Intake of an appropriate quantity of water

DIET AND BEHAVIOUR FOR BURNING URINATION

  • Avoid food items that produce dosha imbalance like dry food, hard to digest. Because dosha imbalance aggravates the symptoms.
  • Drinking water boiled with gokshura.

YOGA FOR BURNING URINATION

  • Nadi Shuddi Pranayam – calms the mind and gets relief from the discomfort associated with burning urination

The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, with the body relaxed. The patient has to close his one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.
