PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF EXCESSIVE SWEATING

In the excessive sweating hyperfunction of sweat glands occurs due to the autonomic neuronal dysfunction.

DIAGNOSIS OF EXCESSIVE SWEATING

  • Proper history taking by the physician
  • Thermoregulatory sweat testing
  • Laboratory investigation is done to find out the underlying medical condition

 

TREATMENTS FOR EXCESSIVE SWEATING

  • Treatment of underlying pathology.
  • Antiperspirants
  • Nerve blocking medications

  • Prognosis is based on the cause of the disease, duration and condition of the patient

  • Excess consumption of hot, acrid, sour food items
  • Excessive physical exercise
  • Exposure to the sun for a long period
  • Daily intake of kulatha (dolichos biflorus)

  • Drinking an adequate quantity of water

 

YOGA FOR EXCESSIVE SWEATING

  • Nadi Shuddi Pranayam – calms the mind and gets relief from excessive sweating

 

The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, with the body relaxed. The patient has to close his one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.

 

  • Sheethali pranayama – provide a cooling effect to the body
