PATHOPHYSIOLOGY OF FEAR OF CROWD
The pathophysiology of fear of the crowd is not much clear. There is a chance of dysfunction of the amygdala (part of the brain that controls fear). Fear of crowd is triggered by environmental factors.

- Proper History taking
- The diagnostic criteria of the American Psychiatric Association for specific phobias are:
- Excessive or irrational fear of a specific object or situation
- The object or situation is tolerated with distress or avoided
- Exposure to the feared object or situation leads to immediate anxiety or panic attack
- The individual is aware of the fear is excessive and irrational
- Avoidance or distress related to the feared object interferes with the person’s daily life.

- Self-exposure therapy
- Medications – anti-anxiety drugs
PROGNOSIS OF FEAR OF CROWD
- Fear of the crowd gradually disappears without medications.

The patient needs to be seated in a meditative posture with the head and spine erect, with the body relaxed. The patient has to close his one nostril (e.g. left nostril if using the right hand and vice versa) with the thumb and exhale completely through the other nostril. Again, he will have to breathe in deeply through the other nostril while the opposite nostril is still closed with the thumb.
